    Just replaced the stock 80GB WD800BEVS drive in my E6500 with a 320GB 7200rpm WD3200BEKT Scorpio Black.

Here's the before and after benchmarks which basically doubled.

Other than doubling the ram to 4GB it's the best $90 upgrade I've made to the E6500 so far. Vista flies with this thing :)

Wow, that is a slow 80gb drive. lol.

My stock 5400rpm (also a WD) 160Gb isn't too far off of the speeds from your new drive.

Its funny you tested that drive. I have that WD drive in my laptop right now.
I did a ATTO disk benchmark test between that drive and my Samsung 64 gig SSD and the stats were so close for the most part I decided to test drive the WD in here for awhile and see what I think. Only thing on the test say like HDtune was the access time for the SSD was close to nothing. Currently I have to say I can't really "feel" the difference between the two.

That 80GB WD is surprisingly slow for current production. My E6400 came with the 160GB Samsung which had 160GB on one platter. It is now replaced by the 500GB WD.

Ok why is it that mine look like that I get a big drop every time even with my SSD I get around 80 at first for about 20 to 30% then 140 the rest of the way.

Here is the test with HDTune on a 80gb 7200RPM

You can try to limit background processes and see if that makes a difference.

But I usually get a big drop in hte beginning too, not as big as your though.

Maybe I will need to yank my SSD drive back out of my PS3 and bench it again.
I don't think I ever rem it tanking like that. On a side note I have been very have with the WD drive in here on my M2400 so far.
