Hey guys, I'm a bit new here, but I'm wondering if someone could give me a little buying advice? Or, not so much buying as trading. How nice was the M90? I'm considering trading for one with a 17" WUXGA screen (1920x1200), DVD/CD Burner, 4GB RAM and a 100GB 7200RPM HD, but I just don't know if I should. Spec wise it looks nice, but how well is a 2 - 3 year old laptop, even a high end one like this, going to hold up before it's completely obsolete? I'm looking to trade it for a gaming rig of mine C2Q Q6600, XFX 680i LTSLI mobo, 9600GT and a PS3 with a few games. Am I stupid for even considering it? Thanks much in advance.

I wouldn't make that trade, but I guess it depends on how much you need the portability.

Well, I've got a Dell Studio 1535 that I'm not incredibly happy with due to the very poor build quality.

Try the Asus M70VM-(A1; B1, C1, X1) It's got the 9600GT and the 17"WUXGA screen. Mine is great!

I had and still have a Precision M90 as my main workstation for two years now (I am typing this from it), and it is an extremely well-built, solid machine. I have no doubts it will work fine for quite a few more years. On the other hand, the machine is a couple of years old, so it doesn't quite have the performance of an M6400, say.

It all depends on what you want to do with the machine. If you absolutely need to play the latest, most demanding games at full resolution, you would have to look elsewhere, but if you're emphasis is more on work than play, and if you can make do either with games that are two years old as well, or can accept lowering the settings of something like Crysis to medium, then you'll have no issues with performance at all. Otherwise, for any standard desktop application, the M90 flies through them easily.

    Hope this helps. :)
