    Agreed mine came with 8 gb and with the 3740qm for 110 bucks, but no keyboard and seems the previous owner had such fun tearing it... But unlucky I am that the only part I need is the keyboard trim bezel... I just have seen twice a dude selling the entire palmrest for 40 bucks and alone for 50 bucks. Might get the one of 40 as I have basically again destroyed the connectors on the palmrest and to see if audio works properly.

    And really I think it's a bang for the buck, and even more now that I am waiting to buy the desktop GPU. But I really hate lately tdp on GPU... 200w and more is insane, main reason I am thinking getting between RX 470 or RX 570 8 gb or the GTX 1060 6gb for the tdp, at least seems Maxwell seems reasonable between performance and battery life and tdp. No seeing any benefit of rtx or 1xxx series lol

    Huh the last desktop card I had was a 1060 6gb but that was a couple years ago, I switched over to laptops only since then for mobility. As far as gaming I need to step back on that so I'm fine with the performance hit. My 1060 was paired with an old Optiplex 990 tower with an i7-2600 so it was really cheap that worked fine for my needs. I didn't even consider the tdp for a desktop so much better cooling. As far as the 980m I've not had any thermal problems at all but I am a modest settings gamer or older games where it does not matter if I max it out. So many great games out there new and old so a lot of options. I'm not an amd fan bc at least the ones I've had and have run way hotter than nvidia's and lower performance. The newer ones you're talking about might be better though.

    @Pastor
    Please post a GPU-Z screenshot so I can show what string to modifiy in each nvidia drivers to get it installed :)
    Be very carefull trying the heatsink on the card out of the computer, X-bracket should be flush with the PCB on the core side, also I found out that thermal pads setup of Kepler card on Maxwell or Pascal card isn't really adequate, it doesn't make the VRM in contact with the heatsink and also bend the card a little :)
    And that's why I replaced 2 times more than needed one mosfet on my GTX 970M, no contact with the heatsink, so mosfet were very hot and shortly after, they shorted themself :(

    Well... after like 10 hours of "figthing" with the laptop, i was able to install the newest drivers, just because Battlefield V just give me this error or warning, that 4xx version of drivers were required to play the game, and Windows by default install an older 35x version.

    What i have been seen i have an issues is like i have some throttling, i can play games but it runs like lag,i noticed that the CPU is "slow", it is like taking a long time to run at turbo frecuency, something that with the other Windows clean i had installed on my other SSD I didn't happened.

    Another thing is in my case i have to mod like 5 lines instead two... Saw an earlier post about somebody who couln't install new drivers and had to put 970m on the text you should replace with your own GPU code. And what happens in my case is that instead of saying 970m it shows the ID hardware code. Main reason i am going to do a clean installation.

    And i think i will have to buy an x bracket.... Mine didn't came with the x bracket and it seems that from time to time it will shut i down randomly, guess as the heatsink is not doing a proper contact with the GPU is the reason.

    And after i could install new drivers, i had to uncheck the option on Windows 10 of receive uptades for other products of Microsoft, because it began to install old drivers

    I have an old T1700,wich cost me 300 bucks but it came with an E3 1280 V3 which is actually one of the fastest on the 4th generation of Intel, and 8 GB and a hard drive of 500 GB, bad luck that the motherboard was DOA, but the seller send me other one with another 8 GB, so i have the 16 GB, had to buy the PSU "adapter" to install my own PSU, as Dell power supply connector is propietary,and i dodn't have any issues, but the RX 460 is kind of dated, so i sold it to buy a RX 470 8GB, but as bad luck it came broken, with a lot of artiffacting and i have to return it. So as for now i have to stick with the M6700, or may be not RX 470 8GB is like 40% faster but for games i play seems that the 970m could be enough, but funny part is that hard drive is kind of small for newer games, it's of 1 TB but the games i had installed, i was not having enough space, thinking on getting a 2 TB one and replace the SSD which is only of 480 GB.

    You can reuse the X-bracket of your old card, just warm it with an hair dryier or something like that and push it from the core face (I used a tweezer to push it because it fitted into the X-bracket screw hole), if you try to pull it from the other side you could rip off some SMD on the card.
    And make sure thermal are correctly placed and that the mosfet are well pushed against the heatsink, if not arrange thermal pads on coil and/or put some thermal pads on the M6700 board to "push" the 970M end where the mosfet are located

    And for the inf mod, you need to modify only this line (there can be more than one because the drivers is made for multiple OS, like for exemple one string for this specific card on this specific laptop for W8 and one for W10) :
    Into this :
    so in summary you just need to change the "laptop ID" (that's what I call it, here it's 05AB for whatever Dell laptop and 053F for optimus disabled M6700 / 153F for optimus enabled M6700) at the end of a string that correspond of the Nvidia (here it's 10DE) graphics card (device ID of the 970M : 13D8) you got in a Dell laptop (all string are for Dell laptop in the nvdmi.inf, here it's 1028)

    And keep in mind you can easily overclock the 970M, it is in real need of memory bandwidth, core at 1200~1300MHz in load should be fine as for ram you should run these to 1400MHz at least to get decent performance :)

    And for slow CPU, use throttlestop with clock modulation and chipset modulation to 100%, then multiplier at the max you can, and don't forget to Turn on and to keep it launched :)

    But you have the 240w power supply, right ?

    Well then i should wait to retun work as i am off vacation, but i tried just mod one but when i tried to install it it gave error that no hardware was found...
    Yeah i have the 240w power supply but as i mentioned in the OS i have the M6700 after it installed the generic 3xx driver version of Windows update and i rebooted the laptop, it was slow... CPU at MAX 1-2 Ghz per core and then i noticed that after like 6 minutes it begins to push the Turbo,running Wolfenstein The Old Blood was worst than the K4100m, as far i am right now i could run The New Colossus at that setting is the last that is on German Uber or something like that and i was smooth, but before i went to sleep i tried Battlefield V and it was lagging as hell. Main reason i am thinking the OS could be corrupted or something like that, reason i am going to do a clean installation of Windows again.

    And i tried just modding those lines only but after i tried it never installed drivers so the only way i could install it was with these method:

    Got it to work :D

    Modded the nvdmi.inf this time replacing as follows everywhere

    NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.05AB.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M"

    with

    NVIDIA_DEV.1617.02A2.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M"

    Then I I disabled driver signature enforcement from bios although it still didnt stop the pop up and it worked.

    So far so good. In 30C+ ambient temps idle is around 42C. Will test further and have some fun with it.

    Thanks again!

    But... i think i replaced in both lines... Can't remember exactly because i was tired and it was like 3 AM when i did that, and i have 5 lines with my ID PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_053F1028 and equal with the 970m, should i replace with my ID before the 970m NVIDIA_DEV.13D8.05AB.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M" with my ID like this NVIDIA_DEV.13D8.053F.1028?

    And for the x bracket, i have to wait till i return of vacation, in the office there is a blower or i could take it from one of couple of HP that are broken and have that MXM cards on it, or take it from my old m5100, which i think is broken anyway, or simple i could use brute force lol

    You need to edit only the end of the string, the begining is (I think) linked to the end of the inf where card name are set, if you modify the begining of the string you also need to modify the end of the inf, which is pretty useless because if you don't touch it, it will work without issue.
    I don't understand why you replaced a string that correspond a 980M non G-Sync to a 980M G-Sync.
    In my case I disabled driver signature enforcement using cmd following this :
    https://www.howtogeek.com/167723/ho...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/

    If you want to uninstall everything about graphics drivers you should use DDU from guru3D

    No I just installed drivers replacing in my case the GTX 970m related stuff... 10 lines each 5 and now it shows as it should be GTX 970m but... After doing a clean Windows installation, it downloaded the generic 3xx drivers... And I even didn't touch Windows update feature. It's there anyway to block this?

    And again turbo takes its time to fire up SMH, it has been around 1.0 GHz

    Audio seems better now

    If you still have whatever was in your m4600, which is most likely a quadro, just take that xbracket off there and use it. I have a radiator heater that I just hovered it over for a few minutes then it came off pretty easy, but holding it over a toaster etc would work too.

    I thought win10 did the driver install automatically no inf mod needed? If it is necessary I'm guessing win10 nvidia drivers are pretty much the same format. You also may have optimus problems idk. You're only really replacing xxxx with either 153F1 or 053F1 for whatever card id you've decided to take over in the driver package and then searching for it in the txt file to replace it there. Here's an example for the aetina 970m win7 I had previously. I put in both optimus and non-optimus(which is better imo). File name is nvdmi.inf for dell.

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13D8.0685.1028% = Section124, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_153F1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13D8.0685.1028% = Section124, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_053F1028
