The HP used a dedicated video processing chip to switch between color gamuts. I will have to go back and look through my old posts to get all of the info from HP about it. The HP literature itself said that the display was 10 bits, the card was 10 bits, but the color processing was 24bpp. Why say 24 bits per pixel? 8 bits per channel is the same thing. My guess is that the hardware carried over from when HP was using an 8 bit TN panel. There is also a chance that HP has changed things in the current generation. Need to check their latest spec sheets.

Maybe that site iFixIt can take apart the 8770w with the Dreamcolor 2 panel. Thanks for looking into it.

Does someone know that I am able to replace the m6700 screen with my m6600 touchscreen?

    Is it compatible or not?

    Thanks in advance

I notice in your review you say "Hello 4K video" but I have U2713HM and a DELL Precision M6700 with Firepro M6000 Graphics. Connecting them with Display Port or HDMi only allows a resolution of 1920 x 1080 unless according to Dell I buy an expensive adapter or (I guess) a Port Replicator.

I can't imagine that the Display Port on an M6700 would only allow a maximum1920x1080 to an external monitor. I have an M6500 and it's display port is plugged into a 27" display giving 2560x1440... and an older e6400 (with only integrated graphics running XP!) and when it is connected via display port to 27" display it is also giving 2560x1440. All without using a port replicator. Maybe for 2 or more monitor, just because you need to have addition outputs.

so an m6700 giving only 1920x1080 to an external monitor doesn't sound right. I've not tried with HDMI at all. Bokeh can confirm.

HDMI is limited to 1920x1080 for rev 1.3 and below, the latest supports higher resolutions I think, but I'm not certain our M6700 can output over 1920x1080 over HDMI. It should be able to output as high as it can on display port. The firepro is capable of it and display port allows it too. The motherboard is the same for all GPU configurations as well, so it's not like there is a hardware block in place for the firepro.

The M6700 is HDMI 1.4 which can do 3840 × 2160p (Quad HD) at 24 Hz/25 Hz/30 Hz or 4096 × 2160p at 24 H and 2560×1600 at 60fps, so the U2713HM should work on HDMI unless the U2713H is using an older HDMI spec. I can't find the version listed in the U2713H spec sheet.

The M6700 and U2713HM are both DisplayPort 1.2 compatible. It should support 3840 × 2160 at 60fps without issues. Check your settings and check to make sure all of your drivers are installed. Maybe check your cable too.

The only ports you would need a dock for are the Dual Link DVI-D connection.

Thanks for the correction. Been using the same E Port Plus Dock since the M6500 that arrived in Jan 2010.

Still, the DisplayPort should work with that monitor with Zero issues. Not sure of what the issue is.
