I'm extremly disapointed with Dell extremly poor support of a Dell M6500 which was a top of the line laptop in 2010 and 2011.

The computer crash randomly with a black screen ever since I've upgrade to Windows 8 and then Windows 8.1 (I was initially on Windows 7)

This seems to be a graphic crash, as this happens often when I move my mouse around or click on an item, it never crashes if I don't do any action,
ie : I can leave the computer open for 12 hours straight no crash will occur, it only occurs during some mouse movements.

Other points, some day it happens to me only one time, sometimes never, and often crashes 3 or 4 times a days like this.

    It's extremly annoying.

Has anyone got a Dell Precision M6500 running perfectly fine on Windows 8.1 ?

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and then upgrade from Win 8 to Windows 8.1

The issue started since the upgrade to Windows 8 ?

Do you think a "clean" install would help ?

if so can you tell me how should I perform the clean install ? do I need to totally format the drive or I can just click on my Windows 8.1 ISO file directly from Windows 8 ?

It would be a complete reformat. Give that a whirl cause OS upgrades can get ugly. If it is the same problem, then it's a driver most likely.

Did you ever figure this out? Mine is doing the same thing. Also, I'm having to manually renew my IP address when using Wifi...All since the update to windows 8
