I just restored my M4700 to a couple days earlier since it randomly started freezing, now the freezing problem is gone, but there is no sound notification anymore?

What I mean is the notification box that pops up at the center of the screen when you hit one of the physical volume control buttons at the top left of the keyboard.

Now, the physical volume control buttons still work, and I can see the volume moving up and down at the taskbar icon, but there is just no more of the volume box at the center.

    Anyone ideas?

If you were on the stock install, try reinstalling the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack.

You're welcome, a lot of manufacturers have custom software to display that kind of stuff, at least with the Precision, you don't need the software for the keys to work, sometimes you do.
