I have a M4500 and I had it replaced by the seller and all I did was swap the battery, memory and hard drive. Replacement came with out those. So my issue is when I press the power button it sleeps. When I open lid and press power button everything comes on but the video. Stays Black. I have to do a restart to get the video back. So I put all the things back into the old machine and it does the same. How come? Never did that before. Is it software related? I didnt re install windows when I did this. I think I will try and do a system restore to a earlier date and see. Input is welcome.

From what I can see I may need to update my video card even though it updated it when I swapped the hard drive to the replacement.
