    Hi,
i plan to buy a new laptop (essentially for developement with visual studio 2017) and sometimes gaming and photos video editing. So I see the new 7720 with "4k" screen :

What do you think about this model of Radeon graphic card ? (it's the least expensive in the dell's configurator but I don'f find lots of informations of this card and the benchmarks).
Is the 7720 is realy VR ready with this card ???
Is it sufficient for : develop, and sometimes gaming ^^ or i have to upgrade with the radeon pro wx 7100 ?

I see the 7520 has some another choice for graphics car, ie nvida quadro M2200 ? Is it a better choice for me ?

    Thanks

The WX 4130 is similar (in terms of performance) to a 960M whereas the Quadro M2200 is closer to the 965M. The difference in performance is about 30-40%. Keep in mind, though, that the TDP difference is significant (WX4130 is around 30W whereas the M2200 is rated at 50-55W). Basically, the M2200 is more powerful but it needs more cooling

EDIT: Neither of them is VR ready, though. For VR - you need a minimum of 980M or 1060 performance. That would mean that the minimum for VR is a Quadro M5000M

    Thanks for you reply !
finally the wx 4130 is sufficient for my usage, but i suppose i can't play recents games in high display ? Maybe the radeon pro Wx 7100 seems to be better for gaming ?

Another way : is it possible to change easily (later) the graphic card on the precision 7720 ?

If the GPU is in an MXM form-factor - yes. If it's soldered to the board - no. Even then you'd need to make sure that the adapter and BIOS both allow for a swap. It's not a process for everyone.

The WX 7100 should be a MUCH better card with performance around RX 580/1060 levels. Though it's a 130W part so it will need even more cooling.

As for games - at 4K, no, anything under a 1080 won't really be usable for gaming at 4K. If you set the resolution to 1080p - sure, games will be playable depending on the settings and performance you expect.

WX4130 is MXM-A. You have limited room to upgrade the GPU later and has to stick with MXM-A card only, unless you bought from aftermarket a complete set of heatisink assembly for MXM-B card.
VR only available with P4000 & P5000. M5000M is not labeled VR ready, M5500 yes.

The VR advertised for Dell Workstation is VR for professional software, not VR for gaming. For gaming VR, most of the lower end card will support.

    Hello guys,

Does AMD Radeon Pro WX 4130 card work on Dell M4600, M4700?
AMD Fire Pro M5100 works on M4600.
Radeon Pro is a newer version of FirePro... so I imagine it might work on M4600 as well?

I want to buy these WX 4130 and WX 4150 cards but no one's selling them yet.

One thing to keep in mind about the Quadro, FirePro, and the new Radeon Pro cards: they are not gaming cards. Can they be used for games? Yes, no problem. Where the problem comes in is they are not optimized for gaming like the GeForce and the Radeon cards are. Even if the Quadro uses the same GPU as the GeForce, it wont perform as well in games because of the difference in drivers and card firmware. The last time I looked at a comparison, Quadros had only about 80-90% of the performance in games that the GeForce counterpart had.

GeForce cards are built to give max frame rates in games and multimedia. Quadros are designed for reliability and accuracy rather than frame rates. They get used more for CAD/3D Modeling, scientific calculations, video production and game design where accuracy is king. In any one of these, a single glitch can cause huge problems for the whole line. They also use ECC memory where as the GeForces dont. Gamers and multimedia enthusiasts dont care about the 1 in 100,000 frame glitch (if its even that often) and likely wouldnt notice anyway. This is also what makes the price point between the cards so dramatic.

The Precision 7720 has a MXM-B slot, however MXM-B is compatible with MXM-A. I joined here to clarify this in the event anyone else was curious about this as well.
