    Quick question....

Can I use an M6700 power supply for a new 7540? Are they compatible at all?

Yes. 7540 will take any Dell power supply 180W and up, old or new. 240W from the M6700 works fine (though there is no added benefit to using anything over 180W).

Technically you can use lower power supplies, but the system will throttle hard if anything under 180W is connected. Something as low as 65W could be used to charge the battery while the system is powered off or sleeping.

I was not able to find 3200Mbps ECC 32GB modules anywhere on sale. Apparently, samsung just released them and did not ship to distributors. I was able to find 2666Mbps ECC modules though. They are most exclusively sold by distributors and are not easy to find. Best bet is to search for model number directly 'M474A4G43MB1-CTD'. Last week I placed an order with one distributor for 4 of these modules through business vendor that works with companies. They don't ship to personal addresses. Day later I got contacted by a rep saying that these modules are not available and no eta for new stock.
I then went to order from this site https://www.avadirect.com/32GB-M474...CC-Unbuffered-SO-DIMM-Memory/Product/13184867. Not in stock. Same story with another vendor https://www.calhountech.com/ (they removed the listing since last week). Yet another vendor https://www.gamepc.com/shop/products?sku=M474A4G43MB1-CTD replied saying they might get these modules back in stock in May. Not sure if it's related to coronavirus outbreak restraining production capabilities.

Does anyone know what this bit of silver foil is that seems to connect to the screw that holds down the SSD next to the battery bay in a 7740? Mine has snapped off, so no longer connects to the screw.

Presume it connects to the square underneath the drive caddy.

Is it a problem that mine has snapped off?

    Thanks
(btw - big thank you to all the people who helped me with my 7740 freezing - seems to be ok now after the BIOS update and other drivers etc )

Saw these available (in the US). Never used NEMIX before, not sure if they are any good.

Yeah, saw those too. But I'm trying to avoind 'replacement' modules. Plus, the price seems to be rather high ($288 vs $170-200 for samsung) compared to samsung modules. Replacement costs more than original haha.

Thank you very much for your reply!
It seems to be very hard to get those. I am located In Japan at the moment. I called the dell and they told me that it will be about 50000 JPY, about 500 each, so I kind of hoping if I can find cheaper somewhere. When I have time I am planing to try asking if I could order those from the samsung somehow through some shop.

I bet your stability issues come from that Grizzly Conductonaut. The reason for this is because the liquid metal conducts electricity. If you repasted both the CPU and GPU with that and they both share the heatsink, it means that the current fluctuations will be passed from one to another. This is really harmful to the overall system. I always recommend a ceramic paste instead of liquid metal. Something like Noctua or Arctic MX-4 will do the trick. Because of the current flowing like this through the heatsink, the whole thing will get hot and it's natural that the CPU will spike towards the mid-90s.

It may be that your 7740's HD audio amplifier may be faulty. I am using the Waves MaxxAudio Pro software just fine with my 7740 without any stability issues. It may be useful to boot up a Linux USB installation, and try playing some audio. Linux should by default power up the amp without any extra configuration needed so you could pinpoint if this is an issue specific to the Windows driver.

This doesn't really make sense to me. He has already demonstrated that audio is working fine in Windows with Waves MaxxAudio disabled. Waves MaxxAudio is not the audio driver, it is something extra included on top (for... audio "performance enhancement"?). It is more likely a conflict with Waves MaxxAudio and the specific game that he is running. What would be interesting would be to see if anyone else can reproduce this issue (run Fallout with Waves MaxxAudio and see if there are problems or not).
