    Thanks all you folks!

The biggest RAM indicator is that the 7740 did not wake from whatever sleep this morning - just a plain blue screen.... no response from a keyboard press or quick press of power button. Dang hard reboot on a new machine! :( I'm brand new to Win10 tho.

The CPU-Z memory tab has no info other than RAM size. OEM RAM out, GSkill 2X16 CL15/3000Mhz in. Report attached.
Attached AIDA64Beta Cache and memory benchmark PDF. I can upgrade beyond the trial if I have to.

Did the whole 3DMark/Steam download: TimeSpy result = 7921, Firestrike = 17605. Lemme know if that's enough and I can unload that gaming stuff. ;)

My real life benchmark will be how fast it can load the Solidworks laser scan of my Sprinter camper van that takes 3 minutes on the M6800. First I gotta add the second SSD... does it matter which slot???

Ram is not always to blame, I had undervolting, and though it works really good under wall power, but I had to up a fraction of voltage and also I forgot I had the GPU undervolted, which does not do much, and I bumped that up and then my BSOD's stopped. Of course I tested my RAM before doing any undervolting.

Windows and updates and a number of other factors will play in BSOD
If you run memtest a few of them, and get through a good % without error and some other stress benchmarks, you can tell if memory is issue pretty quick, but I recommend tests when wall plug and on battery

Also you removed all the original memory when putting new ram correct? otherwise you will have major issues as others have mentioned and tried, even same speed of ram and with similar timings you can run into issue, its best to buy in pairs or quads, sometimes you can get 2 sets of pairs and with same brand same timing you will mostly have success

Has anyone here purchased the Precision 7540 with the UHD display? If so, care to share the display model (using HWiNFO), and the display cable part number? This latter bit requires mild disassembly of the bezel.

As also @va123 said, is not sure that ram is the cause of your blue screen. Can be also driver/windows setting, do you use docking station or other external stuff?

For the ram settings, your AIDA screenshot show that the system is currently using the 3000Mhz XMP profile with the right timings, also bandwidth seems in line with what it should be.

Regarding the best SSD slot, you can find some considerations in the pages behind, personally I find that I have some better 4k result using Slot #6 (Sata0) instead of the original Slot #5, but nothing impressive, and I'm on AHCI mode (not raid).

Hi Guys, I need some advise...

I am currently using a m6700 (3840, 16gb, k4000m mSata boot, 2xSSD Raid 0 data). This machine is rock solid but the new tech has just surpassed her now.

The configuration must be optimized for InDesign. I also have Dual Xeon workstation and did some testing to improve performance. InDesign does not multi-thread much (if any at all!) and needs raw single core boost. (The temp files are huge and I've experimented with RAM drives - mega real world perf increase!)

99% of my normal workday is spent at a desk connected to 3 displays (2x1200p, 1x4k), BUT I do travel for work and spend about 6-10 week out of office. It is a read schlep not having my primary machine with me...

I have $5000 budget and needs to check the following:
    • Would the W3200 be adequate to power 3x4k displays or should I consider RTX 3000 or 4000? InDesign has no GPU acceleration for PC
    • FHD or 4K panel? I will only use the panel while travelling, and would prefer longer battery life. (Tried a XPS 9380 4K - beautiful display, but way less battery time than the FHD reviews claims.)
    • Any advantages with the "aluminium Bezel" or just cosmetic?
    • Intel Wifi preferred?
    • ANY reason I should go 128gb?
My current config in Dell Cart:
    • 7740
    • 9980HK,
    • FHD ir cam carbon,
    • 8gb,
    • 256gb class 40,
    • RTX 4000,
    • AX200/BT,
    • WD19DC...

    Amazon Cart:
    • Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2666 MHz Kit 32GB (16GBx2) CL16 x2
    • Intel 660p M.2 2280 2TB x2
    • ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB x1

    Last questions to finish:
    • Anybody tweaked the CPU to sustain 1 or 2 core near 5gHz for a reasonable time?
    • How does the thermal on the 7540 compare to the 7740?
    PS: I've been following https://www.51nb.com/review/20190802/870.html

Aluminum lid should be harder to damage than the "soft" carbon fiber one. Not all lids are available for all screen types...
Intel WiFi AX200 is the only card in the mix that supports Wi-Fi 6 / 802.11ax so that is the one that I would choose... (I actually have one in my M6700 and it works fine for me.)
