Could you share the file so others who are having the issue can recover?
(Just .zip it and attach to a post...)

Did your service tag / windows license / NIC mac address change after this?

The steps they are talking about are for recovering from a bricked system, i.e. they've already tried to run the Dell 1.11.2 update and their system is no longer working.

@Judicator - Correct and just to restate for everyone - if your system isn't bricked, you don't need to do a recovery flash.

@Soromeister - RCV is the recovery file, so no need to use this if you can flash normally. The [0] file you see *probably* is the same thing but I can't say for sure. I disassembled that exe and found the same thing.

@win32asmguy - No change to my NIC MAC, windows activation, service tag, etc. My RAID-0 config even survived so clearly it's getting all of that info out of the CMOS that wasn't damaged.

Here is the latest RCV file (1.11.2): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HrHYaC9HL-Rdwi82v3HsT8cFdPtAlXX4/view?usp=sharing

Based on other things I've read, I made 3 copies of it in the EFI partition, called BIOS_CUR.RCV, BIOS_PRE.RCV, and BIOS_IMG.RCV. No harm in doing that and it worked..

I'm curious, how many with the 4k panel has had to have it replaced due to back light bleeding?

Hey all. I have a 7540 from a client of mine, and we're having issues with the graphics on it. Specs are:
    i9-9880H
    Quadro RTX 3000
    256GB NVMe SSD
    64GB RAM

When using AutoCAD and working in a small 3d model, AutoCAD will disable the high quality graphics. Autodesk says this happens when too much video RAM is needed, but my GPU monitor says I've never exceeded 30% demand on the VRAM. I initially thought maybe the machine was running the program through the on-board graphics, but 2e've assigned AutoCAD as an app to utilize the RTX rather than the on-board graphics, both in Windows and in the Nvidia control panel, and are still having the issue. We have also updated to the most recent Nvidia driver. Any other thoughts/suggestions out there?

You can make extra sure that AutoCAD is not using the onboard graphics by going to the BIOS and turning graphics switching off. That will disable the Intel and the Quadro card will be the only GPU active. (Note when you boot up Windows the first time after making the BIOS change, it will see the Quadro card is if it is a new device and it will take it some time to load a driver up for it. It might be a good idea to reinstall the current NVIDIA driver before testing it out.)

Hi all. Posting here as a last resort to see if anyone can help...

I've got a 7740, and for the last 2 months or so on random occasions when I lock the desktop and leave the PC unused, the displays go off after 30 seconds or so (as they're set to do) but then the PC won't come back to life. The keyboard light is on, the fans are running, but the caps lock light doesn't go on and off on the keyboard, and nothing I do wakes the PC up. If I try to connect to it with Teamviewer I can see that it's online, but when I try to connect to it it won't connect. The only option is to hold the power button down for a few seconds to force a restart, losing anything I had open.

There is nothing helpful in the eventviewer (under "Windows Logs - System").

Dell have been through every Windows setting they can think of - all drivers up to date, run sfc scan etc, and nothing stops it happening.

They are going to replace the motherboard tomorrow, but if that doesn't fix it they say I have to reinstall Windows. That is a HUGE amount of work for me with all the software I have installed and configured, so just posting here in case anyone has encountered this specific issue and has any ideas?

    Many thanks

I honestly feel reinstalling Windows would save you the trouble: it might have been a bit of a pain to reinstall and configure your software, but surely it wouldn't have taken the two months that you have been troubleshooting this problem for?

It is unfortunate, but with Windows: when in doubt, reinstall.

With hindsight maybe, but reinstalling Windows as a first response seemed a bit rash - obviously I've been trying easier fixes first. After the first couple of times, it went about 5 weeks without doing it so I thought it was fixed. But now it's done it 10 times in the last 5 days. Getting Dell to swap the motherboard seems worth a try, but if that doesn't fix it I am preparing myself to have to reinstall Windows... I would say it's a full day of work to get everything reinstalled and set up.
