    Greetings all (first post).

Just recently acquired one of these; I'm coming from a 7510 for some weight savings. Anyway, the machine I ordered came with 16gb memory and I bought some Samsung 2400t memory to upgrade to 32. However, I installed the memory and now it won't post, LED light is flashing error code 25 (memory). My 7510 (Xeon) had similar issues when I tried to upgrade it to 64gb of 2400 ECC memory so I'm familiar with the downclocking issue, but I wasn't expecting to find it with an i7 and non-ECC memory this time around. Plus I've read about folks who upgrade to speeds even higher with no issue.

    Any advice?

Well here they come. Upgraded bios to 1.6.1 last week, had an inability to suspend or resume, or cleanly shut down or startup since. It's been a complete nightmare. Have reset bios to defaults and factory config with no effect. Right now I have about half an hour of hitting the power button in the morning to start the ffff thing up, and it wouldn't even shut down tonight I had to hold the power button down. (Lights remained on, fans running, long after the OS had shut down.)

Like others have noted the 1.5.1 bios downgrade won't work (no errors, it just never shows up where you would normally see it in the boot process and the machine restarts normally instead of performing the flash), and right now it's looking like it's going to be an RMA as it's not usable.

I was on bios 1.2.x previously and had no issues, wish I'd never touched it now..

Will it boot with only one module (original or new)? My 5510 is running happily with 2 x 2133MHz Samsung modules but I recall that there are possible issues with 2400MHz RAM.

OK. You are the first, so far. I won't try to diagnose the problem.

Doesn't your Precision warranty give you onsite service?

They are all showing up under the Intel P530. So now what?

We will find out, they will no doubt demand a reinstall before they acknowledge a fault anyway. If I can find a usb DVD I'll boot it from Linux and see how it behaves..

I'll have to check when I get home. I did check the Intel ARK for my CPU (6820HQ) and it only supports 2133, but the 7510 and now the 5510 are the first computers I've ever come across that cannot downclock memory that is too fast. The 7510 can downclock two memory modules in any of the four spots but adding the third and no bueno, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if one module does work, or even one 2400 and one 2133, on the 5510. If that does work, then I might just run it at 24GB and call it a day.

Isn`t there an option in the bios where downgrading the bios is set to 'off'? Have you tried turning that option 'on' and then downgrade the bios?

I feel for you, what a mess.

There is indeed a setting, and it does default to allowing downgrades, and in my case that has not been changed, so no that's not the problem here. Tbh I think I have thermal issues that the bios has made worse. I am booking dell support to take a look at it.

Have you already tried reverting back to 1.5.1 as well as 1.2.x?
