I just got a 2nd hand D830 and it has a Powered USB 2.0 Port, just like my old D800 (and port replicators).

I sometimes run out of USB ports when using my external 2.5 1TB drive which has a seperate USB connection for extra power. E.g. when I am travelling and have no dock with me.
I decided to look for what the powerconnector does and found this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...on/363162-dell-d830-powered-usb-2-0-port.html (which is closed, otherwise I would have posted things there).

Thanks to the picture shown there of the connector I was able to locate a cable on ebay that fits that image, search for 'Dell Powered USB Cable Y9312'. I ordered two from the UK (€30 incl shipping to Germany) and intend to modify at least one so it will have a USB-B female connector, that will allow me to power my external drive in a flexible way.

HTH someone else who found this forum.
