    Hey all,
My Vostro 1510 laptop came with the latest 8400GS video card driver from Dell. Is it unwise to try the latest driver from nVidias site?

I've been reading that some drivers can run a little cooler. HWMonitor says my GPU normally runs at 60c, a little warm from what I'm reading.

Sometimes you are forced to use the dell driver. It would be worth trying the Nvidia one, however I did once and got booted during install (incorrect driver version for the computer blah blah)

The ones found at the Nvidia site won't work because they are desktop drivers and not laptop drivers (mobile). See the sticky in the Gaming section of this forum http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=258626 . It will tell you everything you need to know as far as using different video drivers and where to get them.

I'll be dammed. Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know that. The nVidia are a newer version then the ones Dell made available last summer. (Dell's for Vostro 1510 are 175.97, nVidia are 179.28.)

I did install Nvidia drivers on my Dell Latitude E6400 with the Qudro NVS 160M.
You just need to get the drivers and the ini hack from
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

The chip features are the same or similar to the counter part of the desktop version. Nvidia works with 1 drivers for all, system. So yes the nvidia drivers did work on my side... but I didn't see any miracle in speed. Battery life was the same... but I did not do any deep test at all.. I just visually looked at only 1 game (FarCry2) and see if it runs better.
