I have the E6510 and the same problem with the fingerprint reader not being detected properly by Windows.

I did some research below hoping to fix this problem.

I followed the service manual here to open up the chassis and remove the fingerprint reader:
    Documentation

Here are some pictures I took:

It appears to be a TCEFA1
    http://www.upek.com/pdf/UPEK_flyer_TCEFx1.pdf
    "TCEFA1 supports Broadcom 58xx processors"
"6-pin flex with USB signals, Power, Ground & Reset."

I was hoping there would be another header I could connect the fingerprint reader to that would go directly to the motherboard and bypass the Broadcom USH but I dont see any obvious way to do that. :/

    Please help.

I have a DELL Precision M6400 running Windows 7 64 bit and the fingerprint reader (FIPS) sends me an error message when I try to enroll my fingerprints. Previously I had Windows Vista 32 bit and everything worked just fine. I just want to use the reader to log on to windows.

I did a clean install for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and also installed the latest bios, drivers and apps including Dell ControlPoint.

In the Device Manager window everything is ok including under the ControlVault Device node the "Dell ControlVault w/Fingerprint Touch Sensor"

    glh,

There is nothing we can do. The ETS software does not work with 64-bit.

Before you kill me: yes, I know it's stupid, yes, I've talked to Dell, and no, they won't do anything about it.

Wave ETS works fine on 64-bit, but I have the swipe sensor.

Oh, that's new to me. I haven't touched this issue in a long time, back then ETS wasn't available for 64 bits.

IdeaStorm | Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) driver for Latitude E Series with Broadcom USH CV w/ fingerprint reader

Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) driver for Latitude E Series with Broadcom USH CV w/ fingerprint reader

DELL should provide a Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) driver for the device Broadcom USH CV w/ fingerprint reader that comes with DELL Latitude E Series laptops to allows using the built-in fingerprint reader with any WBF compatible applications (UPEK, DigitalPersona...) by making it recognized in the Biometric Devices Control Panel from Windows 7. In my opinion this would improve the usability of the fingerprint reader significantly.

Come on People !!! Let's promote it.

I promoted it. But don't get your hopes up -- it's not the first idea regarding this. I know, because I created one that was merged with something else that has nothing to do with it.

    HerrKaputt thaks for the information.

After your answer I sent an email to Wave to ask for 64 bit support for EMBASSY Security Center and contribuite to this community of dell users to get the attention and a solution from Wave.

Next I attach my email and the answer.

    My email to Wave:

    Hello!

I have a laptop Dell Precision M6400 and recently for professional needs I update my system to 16 GB of RAM and also the OS to Windows 7 64 bit. Then I realize my fingerprint reader doesn't work to log me on to windows as it used to do on Vista 32 bit.

After some research I realize there are a lot of users in the same situation and no solution until now. Please, I ask Wave and its sales and engineering departments to take us into account and develop the 64 bit version of EMBASSY Security Center.

I really would appreciate a solution from Wave.

    The answer:

    Hello Giovanni,

Unfortunately, as you pointed out, we do not have 64 bit support for the earlier Dell Models. We do support the “E” series but with limited functionality. Wave does intend to support these models in the future with full functionality, but no estimate as to when this will occur.

    Sorry for the inconvenience,

    Martie Martin

I have a 6410ATG and was told by a Dell rep today they would pass this issue along to their engineers; however he told me seeing they have a contract with Wave the chances this issue gets resolved by Dell is slim to none. Dell now has a perfectly workable device that could be very useful but for the fact business gets in the way...

Talked to Dell rep again today...he said the engineers told him I could REM out a line of code or two in INF file of the fingerprint sensor device if I was familiar with it to allow the system to see the fingerprint reader as a BIO device. Anyone out there familiar with doing this? I need a little assistance...
