Dell has on Dec 18 released version A02 of Dell System Software for most new Dell computers including Latitude E4200, E4300, E6400, M6400 etc.
It includes Microsoft Windows XP hotfix 959252. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959252 for more information.

The title of the knowledge base article is "Error message when you switch the operating system from a dual monitor setting to a single monitor setting on a Windows XP-based computer or on a Windows Server 2003-based computer that has the security update 954211 installed: "Stop 0x0000008E""

I am reinstalling my E6400 right now and I will install the new A02 version of Dell System Software.
