    Hi all,

Had my m6700 for three years now. I think the battery has finally gave in. Does the replacement battery have to be genuine Dell or can someone recommend one? Any help appreciated

Ideally yes... Since batteries are quite energy dense, if something goes wrong, it'll be catastrophic.

Lets think about it this way. 3rd party battery vendors seldom manufacturers their own, they buy "generics" which can be sometimes good, sometimes bad.
If you get a good one, all is dandy. If you get a bad one, it can blow up your laptop and burn your house down. All the battery vendor will say is they'll replace the battery since you've agreed to the terms of sale, and they're probably an offshore company.
If you get a bad Dell genuine, you have legal recourse if they don't play ball. "Your battery burned down my laptop, which burnt down my house" is pretty hard to diffuse even with good PR.
