Dell M6600 died tonight (started smoking, no display). Dell isn't offering any good options, any suggestions?

    Hey folks,

My M6600 went belly up tonight. It started smoking and I'm guessing it was part of the Quadro card as the display is no longer working.

I contacted Dell and they said they don't have any of those cards in stock and they are on backorder. About the best thing they can offer is a system exchange, but that's going to take well over a week. I'm in the middle of a project and could go a day or two without, but not a week or two. Is there any chance I can get Dell to do something different here? I've got Complete Care, NBD support and Client Gold / Pro Support (some good that has done me). It seems they are out of the ATI cards.

Can i just yank the Quadro and run it off of the integrated video? Would i need to do any bios changes first?

Ultimately this is my fault for trying to squeeze three years out of a work machine, but it's just been terribly busy and I just haven't taken the time to get a replacement ordered.

    Thanks!

Thanks landsome. I got it torn about halfway down but decided i didn't want to go much further without a document to guide my screwdriver. I did find that it's booting enough that i can remote desktop to it and complete my project, so i told dell that the system exchange will be fine. Still need to pick up a spare laptop, this could have been much worse.

    Take care.
