Another E6520 user with a Squeeky space bar. Does Dell not use these things?

Only squeaks if I type really fast. A non-issue a good chunk of the time since I'm docked and using a regular keyboard. Would be nice if it were fixed, though.

Mine squeaks. Nothing compared to the fact that GPU can get into the 80s and there's no fan speed toggle!!!

I too have the annoying squeaky spacebar on my E6520. Although I got Dell On-site (4yrs), I'm inclined to just try the lubrication method as well.

For those of you that have done it, how long does the lube fix seem to work? Also, I presume you're all just using standard silicone spray?

First keyboard had 3 squeaky keys: space, return, shift

Dell sent me another keyboard. It has 2 squeaky keys: space, return

Dell says: "This is not a hardware problem. It's purely cosmetic. We won't fix it."

Unbearable. I wonder if anybody at Dell were fine using a keyboard that squeaks hundreds of times each day. Calling this "cosmetic" is pure cynicism.

I had a similar problem with my 6410 down-arrow (annoying for reading in class). I replaced it with an illuminated keyboard, recently my enter key started squeaking but it seems to have stopped.

My first thought was to apply some CRC silicone spray or possibly lithium grease (both are very non-volatile so should last for a while).
Wikipedia has the following to say about silicone spray though:
So I'm thinking lithium grease might be the way forward. I think it's the stuff used in small servo-motors and inside CD players to keep the plastic gears moving smoothly.

Depending on where the problem lies in the key-assembly it might be a good idea to try applying it to where the scissor meets the keytop (by removing the keyboard and turning it upside down)

My E6520 spacebar and a few other keys are squeaky too. Ugh, this is the first keyboard I've had that does this - what a pathetic quality. I cringe every time I type. The reason is the metal braces underneath the keys are seated inside metal housings, and when they rub against each other, the squeaky sound comes out.

Did anyone have any luck lubing and having the squeak go away for a long time? If so, with what lube (can we please stop saying "lub" here?)?

    Thanks.

Can you elaborate on step #3? I can get the left and right sides up, but don't understand how to get the entire spacebar off.

    Thanks!
