I just got a E6400 from outlet (well it will be here around the 17th). It has a Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card but I want to get a wireless-n card.

Are there 3 antennas in the laptop still that would allow an upgrade to a Intel wifi 5300 card (assuming it can be found outside of the customization page)?

Is there anywhere cheaper than dell to buy the wireless-n part for the E6400? Dell only has the 5100 for $59.99 and haven't seen the 5300 in parts.

the antenna should be installed, if you want to be sure, just open the bottom panel of your notebook. its quite easy on the E series since its just one screw and a sliding panel.

if there are 2 wires connected to the WLAN, and one tubed up not connected, then you know for sure.

Thanks. If it has 3 antennas when I get it, then hopefully dell will put some 5300s in spare parts and not charge an arm and a leg.

    thanks for the info.

Anyone know if only half cards fit in the E6400 or can regular size wireless cards fit?

See the E6400 service manual for what the wireless card looks like and how it is connected. All three wires (black / white / grey) are installed in the notebook but the grey wire is not used with some wireless cards.

The other recent discussion about this is in the E6400 owners' lounge.
