Same for mine with Win7, brightness control works well with ALS, and not without it. (Win 7 7077, DCP installed).

Yes, it is a major bug for me, so that I have reverted back to Vista 64. The ALS on causes the backlight to modulate quite a bit in some lighting situations. With it off, I cannot change the brightness.

The other bug I found is that coming out of sleep, the laptop will not start bluetooth services if the BT mouse is turned off. So later when the mouse is turned on, it does not connect since BT service has not been started.

Did you do a fresh install of Win7, or an upgrade? Which build? Which version of DCP?

You said that you need to turn Aero off. What happens if you turn Aero on?

Replaced the TIM (with Shin-Etsu X23) and the temperature dropped by a decent bit (around 3-5C). The original TIM application isnt too bad though, it wasn't a huge glob like some others Iv seen (cough Apple cough). Still the temperature drop definitely helped as the fan spins up less now.

The disassemble is a major pain though. You have to take out the mainboard to get to the heatsink. NOT fun.

Wow, congrats man. It is too bad you didn't take pics of the dis-assembly. Did you follow the Service Manual?

Yes, it is not too hard if you keep organized. There is much less yanking than with my old X1. Still it is a LOT of screws and ribbon cables.

    Problem:

Sometimes (not every time) after a hard boot the Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager hangs. It stays in the bottom taskbar and shows up as "Not Responding" in the Task Manager.

Usually, after startup, I notice a dialog box that pops up briefly saying something about Bluetooth starting up. This doesn't appear when I get the problem described above.

I terminate the process, and yet Bluetooth is still working (typing on a bluetooth keyboard right now). When I go to Dell ControlPoint and go to Connections to bring up the Connection Manager it will hang again.

After a reboot, sometimes it happens again, and sometimes it works normally after throwing up the Bluetooth dialog.

ETA: Let me clarify. Just remembered that after this problem occurs, to shut down I would have to do a hard power down by holding down the power button. Will not complete shutdown on its own, sits there with blank desktop and the mouse pointer flickering the busy signal every couple seconds ... forever.

    DCP v. A8.1.1.3.5 -2137f
    Installed modules:
    Power Mgr v 1.1.00000
    Display & Devices v1.1.00000
    Connection Mgr v1.1.1-2015az
    Security Mgr v1.2.4.41

I'm looking at the Dell downloads page and I can't figure out what the latest version of DCP or the Connection Manager is supposed to be. The formats of version #s don't seem to match up with what I listed above. There does seem to be a "Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager v1.2.00002, A14"

    Any ideas guys? Thanks.

How about uninstalling Dell's Connection manager? You don't need it. Windows Mobility Center is better.
