I am quite certain you will be pleasantly surprised because it will arrive earlier :)

I hope so. I'm getting married on the 17th and leaving town for two weeks on the 19th, so if it doesn't get here by the 16th as scheduled then I won't see it until November 3rd...

In Switzerland, I do not have a WWAN upgrade option. I think, I have to use a external USB stick for WWAN. And I think, then I will not have drivers to use it with "Latitude On". What a pitty.

I checked Dell.ch and you are right. It's odd really but then what's odder is that if you get the WWAN option, you don't have the fingerprint scanner with the SU9400 CPU, however, you get LatOn, fingerprint scanner and WWAN with SU9300. That's messed up because this is what Dell USA has in a note under the 'Processor' section:
WTH? Also, it seems that the US models support both Verizon and AT&T and this option is available but it doesn't seem to be the case in Europe. Perhaps, it's not WWAN upgradeable and does come with the card to begin with and all you need to do is to pop in the SIM? Just call Dell and ask since I can't tell exactly what the case is (my German sucks).

It appears that Dell is not entirely ready for a mass rollout of the E4x00 series. It's clear from the quality on the early units as well as the lack of options on the various Dell sites around the world that this is indeed the case. I mean why make a big deal out of the backlit keyboard if you won't offer it at the get-go and not tell us when it will be offered? LatON will be offered, later, as well but I find it odd that they are shipping with LatON Reader, as if they will be left behind if they don't introduce something to counter the X200s.

Since I really want the E4200, I think I will wait another couple of months and hope that all kinks, whether in the ordering process or in the product itself, are ironed out before Christmas.

Hmm my Dell rep told me that the CPU was the only component that they didn't have in stock. Everyone here seems to be receiving their E4200s around the 15th or earlier so why is mine scheduled to around the 30th even though I ordered mine on the release day? :S

So I called the rep and he realized that the SSD (the 32GB SanDisk drive) was the part delaying the order. As compensation he changed it to the "mobility 64GB drive". The new date is only two days earlier than the last one :(

You did the right thing because Sandisk SSDs SUCK! They are so bad they aren't even an option for us in the States ;) Or at least they weren't when I checked last. Where are you located? Don't worry about the date. Those are worst case scenarios and we are very positive around here, right? :)

I thought the "mobility" drives were Sandisk; we just don't get the 32GB option.

On the US dell site, when customizing the E4200,
why is the default choice for Optical Drive an
E-Module w/ 8X DVD with Cyberlink PowerDVD™ [Included in Price]
    while a seemingly superior
    E-Module w/ 24X DVD/CDRW with Cyberlink PowerDVD™ add $0
    costs the same?
Is there any reason whatsoever for choosing that default?

If you don't need to burn CDs then the DVD-ROM would probably be a slightly lighter (and less mechanically complex) choice (we're talking grams here, not ounces). If you're spending this much though you really ought to pop for the DVD Burner for $50 (less if you've got a sales rep or a premier account, I think I only paid about $30).
