    Hi All,

I have a Dell Latitude D630 which originally came with a WXGA (1280x800) panel. I went ahead and decided it would be nice to upgrade to a WXGA+ (1440x900) panel. I ordered the WXGA+ panel and the appropriate WXGA+ flex cable (it's marked DC02000FB0L).

Got everything replaced, turned on the machine... No video or backlighting. So I thought... okay... that's not good. So just for fun, I put in the old WXGA flex cable onto the WXGA+ panel and turned it on. This time, the panel powered up along with the CCFL backlighting and I have video but of course since it's the wrong flex cable, the LCD panel is displaying 1280x800 onto a 1440x900 panel (rather poorly I might add). So at this point, I know the LCD panel and backlighting is good.

Put the supposed WXGA+ flex cable back in... Still no video nor backlighting.

At this point, I'm thinking the flex cable I received was bad (it wasn't new; it's definitely been used). Is this a decent assumption or am I missing a step when upgrading from a WXGA to a WXGA+ panel? Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,
    Kermee

P.S. I've verified, I think, I have the correct flex cable for WXGA+... It says on it:

    IAQ00 LCD Cable
    DC02000FB0L
    Rev: 3.0(A02)
    FOXCONN Oct/23/07

P.P.S. My Latitude D630 has an nVidia Quadro NVS 135M

I feel like it should be the same flex cable for both displays... This is the case for older D-Series machines like the D600 and D610 (not sure about the D620). Did you try manually raising the resolution in Windows with the WXGA flex cable installed?

    Hi Commander Wolf,

    Thanks for your reply.

So using the old/existing flex cable from my WXGA panel, I let Windows boot fully and it automagically recognized the 1440x900 native display resolution of the new WXGA+ panel. However, I have uniformed black vertical banding (i.e. indicative of missing signal) throughout the entire display. I've included screenshots.

I'm pretty sure for the D620/D630 that different resolution panels require different video flex cables. The seller which I purchased from was pretty upfront about it stating that if I currently had a 1280x800 (WXGA) panel in my Latitude D630 that upgrading to a 1440x900 (WXGA+) panel requires a different flex cable. I was 99% sure he/she was correct after searching for other vendors for flex cables and finding notes that particular part #'s were specific to either WXGA or WXGA+ panels.

At this point, I'm trying to figure out if I'm missing something when I'm upgrading from a 1280x800 (WXGA) panel to a 1440x900 (WXGA+) panel for my Dell Latitude D630 other than swapping in the proper flex cable. I think it just received a "bum" WXGA+ flex cable from the seller but just wanted to confirm with someone who might be familiar with upgrading Latitude D630 panels or swapping them out.

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Kermee

UPDATE: The seller believes I received a bad flex cable. They're shipping out another one tomorrow via USPS.

SOLVED: Received a new flex cable from the seller. Turned out to be a bad cable after all. Just for reference, 1280x800 & 1440x900 LCD's have different video flex cables for Dell Latitude D630's.

    Cheers,
    Kermee
