    Thanks.
    Now another unrelated question...

How/Is your Raptor noisey and how much do you feel it speeds the tasks?
I don't game but do like a fast machine in photoshop or heavy visual usage (auction sites with lots of pictures, etc)

I just got a sys two months ago
    q9300
    250GB 16mb cache HD --- (smallest with 16mb Cache)
3GB pc6400 --------------- (3+ is all XP home, or any 32 bit sys, will read)
    Geforce 8500 512mb
    Antec Earthwatts extra-quiet 500w
    Antec Sonata III Ultra-quiet case

Happy with speed, but just wondering about a 150 raptor

If you are willing to sacrifice the capacity it is a pretty decent drive. I really can't say that I notice the drive being very audible. I've had my Raptor in a small factor form Shuttle box and it wasn't significantly louder. Now in my behemoth Antec case I can't hear it ever. For speeds, I notice it mostly in games. When I got my first Raptor I played BF2 often and I was usually the first person to have levels loaded. Multi-tasking seems to be very smooth, I even noticed this when I did not have as much RAM as I currently do.

    Thanks.
    Capacity is not a problem.
After 3½ yrs on my old one only used about 60Gb of 160gb.

If and when I do an upgrade/s- I may do the Raptor too then.

I've ALWAYS wanted one-- but as a non-gamer felt it wasn't warranted. Not even a money issue.. just felt "what was I doing with a raptor".

then again I've had three 911 porsches I didn't need the speed in those either-- just liked it.

And I'm thinking I might even be a little faster with an e8500 (3.16) than a q9300 (2.5) if I don't do alot of multi-tasking. ???? Or whatever the best/second best dual is a yr from now.

Now that I've ridded myself of Norton Internet Security- I feel freed/Lightened immensely! Put in Kaspersky 7 instead.
Norton not only used alot-- mysteriously it 'sprawled'.. you give it more Memory, it'll use more!

So the quad would have taken care of that Large always-running background task, but now I'm not using the resources that pig was, so am thinking of just the fastest dual core.
But I don't think I'll replace the q9300 and it's ability just in case I need it.
    who knows in a year.

My Q6600 is great and I really like it, but I think I am going to move back to having a laptop as my main machine. I think I built a little too much computer this time around, plus it is a furnace. But I definitely think having a speedy hard drive is well worth it. That is why I am looking at getting an SSD when I do get my notebook. A quad core processor can only be truly utilized when you are multitasking since no software really takes advantage of the parallel processing ability.

As for Norton, it is a joke. It used to be decent as an anti-virus, but the monstrosity that it has turned into is pathetic. The last time I used it I got bought I actually made $5 thanks to a rebate. I think you would have to pay me much, much more for me to ever use it again.

Just FYI...but the Sandisk SSDs that Dell use on the D430 have known performance issues.

Sandisk blames Vista, but then they turned around and said similar problems have been seen with XP. So Sandisk = fail.
