    Hello.
I have a Dell Latitude C600 that I purchased with a non working cooling fan. I bought a fan and tested it in the laptop when it was apart and it worked. I tested it again as I put it together and it worked. Once totally together it never comes on. Is there somewhere in the BIOS where I can control it or how else can I check it? Shouldit always be on like my other 2 laptops? Thanks for any help. Also, it is a PIII 750 MHZ C600. What is the largest processor I can upgrade to?

What are your temps? I have a C600 and I'm fairly certain it just doesn't get hot enough under normal use for the fan to kick in. Try stressing the processor with Prime95 or something and seeing if you can get the temps to rise or the fan to spin up...

I don't think there's a way to force the fan to run in BIOS, but i8kfangui may work on the C600.

As for the processor upgrade, you should be able to use any Mobile Pentium III with a 100MHz FSB, the fastest such processor being a 1000MHz part. I'm not sure if 133MHz FSB chips will work, but I'm guessing they won't.

EDIT: I just ran Prime95 on my C600 for a while and the fan didn't kick in until 70C...

Thanks for the information and you have answered my questions. I assumed that the fans run all the time..as they do on my Compaq A900 and Compaq EVO N610c.

    Thanks again,

    Kevin
