hi all, i own a E6510 that has an i5, and recently bought an i7-720qm cpu from ebay and it won't boot, nothing shows up on screen, not even the fans turn but the power led turns on for a few seconds and then goes out. the old cpu code is SLBNB and the new cpu code is SLBLY

    could the cpu be bad?

Did your motherboard have the Intel HD graphics? If you do, you cannot go to the Clarksfield quad core i7's, as they do not have the IGP on the CPU.

Nope only Arrandale based i3/i5/i7 have Intel GPU on CPU. Only dual core i7's support IGP.

I'll update this thread shortly. Trying to get an 820QM or 840QM to drop in my wife's E6410 (currently 620M). It does have the nVidia Quadro card in it. Figured I have to take it apart to replace the fried wireless card so might as well drop $100 on it for a CPU while I'm in there. If I can't win the bids on the 8xx unit I can get a 740QM for $110 BIN and that'll do. Unless someone here has something for $100 shipped...???
