I have an old E6430 that I still use fairly frequently. While it is oldest of my laptops, it still boasts the most powerful CPU (i7-3620qm) of all of them, so I still find it fairly useful for some CPU intensive games or running VMs.

However, the screen is terrible. It is extremely dim compared to my newer notebooks, and the screen has a small but noticeable pressure point. I currently have a 1600x900 TN panel, which I think may be the 'best' screen the laptop shipped with. Is there a better screen I can drop in this old laptop? I've seen some "E6430 ATG" touch screens that looked interesting, but I think that the "ATG" model is a completely different chassis.

Any thoughts appreciated. I'd rather upgrade this old beast as long as its useful, rather than throwing it into a landfill.

Unfortunately on those laptops, and even some of the early to mid-cycle builds of the E6440, you're limited to LVDS panels. Which will limit your options. The better panels are, of course, eDP, which are not compatible with your laptop.

So not much you can do.

Rev 2 of the E6440 can take the later 1080P IPS Panels, but the E6430 is stuck with the 900P. There might be different 900P panels for you to take a look at, but I wouldn't know.
