Dell E6400 screen flickering on start up

    The strange thing is my screen flickers with many coloured lines BUT after the laptop is on for a while the flickering goes away.Can anybody tell me what this problem is?

    Could be power fluxs? Dirty power. Or worse a dying motherboard. I wold contact dell support and see if they can help!

    Also if you could test it on an external monitor that would help narrow the problem down

    thank you for the help, laptop is working fine with external monitor, if laptop lid is closed for some time or in other words when laptop display is of for some time and when display is on again then screen flicker for and after 4-5 minutes flicker goes away, BUT on external monitor there is no flickering,

    it is a good chance the problem is either a loose video cable or a bad one.

    Try re-seating it if your comfortable opening up the display bezels.

    make sure all power is removed before trying this.

    Agree with Dave P. This happens with old ones or with refurb screens. It's as if the flickering disappears after the screen "warms up.'

    I've had flickering with dirty power .. Problem would disappear on external monitor could be either.

    HI,

    I know its been a while but did you ever get it resolved? I have the same problem and its actually my friend's laptop that I borrowed so i really want to know if I can fix it. I borrowed it cuz my laptop died and i was trying to save some money to buy a new one but now I'm scared I'll prolly be spending my money on fixing his? :( Please let me know if it was something simple or if you needed to basically buy a new laptop?
