    Hey guys,

I was just wondering if any of you have the same problem. My 9 cell battery is loose from the battery slot on the dell e6400. Is it normal, or should i send it in for a repair?

    Regards,
    Baron

A few people have reported some looseness.

    How loose is it?

If it is something that can be fixed by glueing a bit of card in the space then I wouldn't trouble Dell support.

Mine is also slightly loose, but nothing more than what a piece of paper or something similar could fix. I think this is normal and simply the margin of error they allow while producing the batteries.

It makes the click click sound when i move the laptop around, especially annoying when I am moving it around on my lap. Also, i pulled the battery on both sides and noticed that the sliding lock securing the battery on the right is much looser than on the left. What do you guys think?

John, I just read through your e6400 guide. It's awesome. I noticed that the e6400 you reviewed didn't have a huge gap on the right of the battery bay with the battery inserted. Mine does. :) I'll try to post a photo when I find my camera.

Thanks for the quick response guys. :)

PS: Is there any way to get a warranty repair other than having to mail it in to Dell at my own expense?

    1. Don't Dell pay the shipping cost for mail-in warranty service?

    2. If the problem is with a part that you can easily change then ask Dell to mail you a replacement part. You could easily try another battery.

The only way to get the laptop fixed the next business day at the time you want, in front of you. Is to get Next Business Day On Site Service with your warranty.

Mine wobbles slightly, but it's nothing serious, and probably designed to be that way. I have no big gap between the battery and the rest of the computer - if you do, something is wrong.

a simple fix is 1-3 layers of electrical tape on the bottom of the notebook. It definitely helps with the looseness..

I've done it on 2 dell laptops and my current netbook as well.

You guys are probably right. I might just be a little fussy over details.

Aside from it being loose, anyone has any problems with it being looser on the right near the led battery indicator? (Pulling it on the right side without releasing the lock actually moves the battery out slightly on the right, at least for me)

Anyway, here's a photo of it.
