    Raider, I don't have a system with a synaptics pad here to check on, so sorry I can't help u much. But you may want to have a look in the regsistry under HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\ to see if there is a similar entry for a UseCustomGUI toggle.

    I have an Inspiron E1505 with a Synaptics touchpad running version 8.2.4.6 and I may have an answer about the tapzones. I found this website because my tapzones were disabled. Apparently, the Tap to click has to be checked to unlock the tap zones. I'm not sure about the later versions, but that's how it is on mine. Hope this helps.
