My Dell E6400 doesn't show a DVD drive in "MY Computer".
It will run program discs and then it may show the dvd drive loaded with the ware disc.
It was allowing my CDex program to rip music discs but it wouldn't show a drive in My Computer and it wouldn't play music discs.
Lastly after weeks have passed it wont run CDex. Oddly, the DVD drive always seems to be listed in "My Computer".

I'm using Win7 SP1 with up to date updates.

Is this the UpperFilter / LowerFilter problem that used to be trigged by problems with reading a disc?

Also check in Disk Management that the optical drive has a letter assigned to it.
