    Hi everybody,

j just received the new Dell Latitude E6400. Now i wanted to install a fresh Windows XP incl. SP2 and whilst the installation, after the drivers were loaded a bluescreen appears.

I already have created a slipstream CD with SP3 and the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers, but that doesn't work either.

Has someone already installed XP on that notebook (i guess so). What have you done to make it work?

    Thanks guys

    Stop Code is:
    STOP = 0x0000007B (0xBACCF5254, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

So i guess this is inaccessible Bootdevice?

I will try now with XP SP2 default CD and only the SATA drivers from Intel...

Yes, that code is for Inaccessible Boot Device.
Also, remember to slipstream the SATA drivers as text-mode....

    Andy, you're the best!

With the special floppy drivers posted in the first link it works fine. Only SP, Textmode-Integrated Drivers for ICH9M.

    Thank you alot! :)

    Addition:
It only works, when I choose "AHCI" Mode in BIOS/SATA Operation.
With the default value "IRTT" it still crashes.

    Maybe this helps someone else...

Yes, the HDD is now running in AHCI mode or native SATA mode.
IRTT must be a dell jargon/term for IDE-Legacy mode.

XP loads the intel AHCI driver during boot to recognise the HDD, and the native IDE driver is disabled.

Once you have installed XP with the HDD in AHCI mode, it will be hard to change the HDD mode, and on changing it, you will again see the BSOD 0x7B.

Let the HDD be set to AHCI mode in the BIOS....

Hmm, i guess IRRT is "Intel Rapid Restore Technology". A Part from the Matrix Storage Manager.

See: [cannot post link, google "Intel IRRT" and choose 2nd hit]

Anyway, this requires 2 hard drives so i don't need it. :)

    thx again

I have seen similar issues with Lenovo laptops and desktops with SATA DVD drives. Installing Windows XP from a USB DVD drive solved the problem. It seems that the drivers for SATA DVD drives in Windows XP are not very stable during installation.

had the same problem. thanks for your help. have found out something new.

slipstream xp with sp2 with all dell drivers and choose ICH9M sata driver and ICH9M raid driver (its combined with something like ICH7.. and ICH8.. ?). this works also with "IRRT".

    greeez
