    Hey all,

My dad has an E6400 with the PR02X dock (with dual DVI and dual DP) and he wants to upgrade his dual WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) to dual WQHD (2560 x 1440) screeens. I want to know:

    1) If the PR02X dock will run dual WQHD at all with any available laptop.

    2) The minimum hardware spec I need on the laptop end to get it to work... I presume an X4500/NVS160M won't do it, but maybe the latter?

    3) Specifically I'd like to know if I can get it to work with HD3000/4000/5000 such that I can get him an E6220/6320/7420, rather than like an M6700 or whatnot.

Couldn't really find anything useful about this on Google, so it doesn't look like too many people have tried, but thanks in advance for any help!

I can't answer completely but I can tell you that this has been confirmed to work on the Precision M6700.

You'll have to connect with DisplayPort. The DVI ports on the dock are single-link and can only support up to 1920x1200.

I'd say it should work if your GPU can drive it. If you're just doing the two screens you should be fine. If you're doing three screens (two external monitors + built-in display) you might run into issues with your GPU only supporting two displays. (I'm pretty sure the HD3000 will hit this limit, so will older NVIDIA GPUs.)

    Thanks for your response!

It has come to my attention that there are two versions of the dual DVI/DP dock: an older one with USB2 and a newer one with USB3. Do you know if you were using the older one or the newer one?

This was tested using the USB 3 dock. However, I don't think it shouldn't matter... As long as your are using DisplayPort instead of DVI, and your GPU supports the display configuration, you should be fine.

I use an older USB2 dock and drive a pair of displays at 2560x1440 and have done this with an E6220 with the HD3000 graphics, an E6230 with the HD4000 and with various other models all without issue.

Yes, you need displayport for resolutions higher than 1920x1200
