The Dell D830 comes equipped with one powered USB port at the rear. The powered USB port is compatible with USB 2.0 connector. When used with a powered USB connector that looks like a bloated RJ45, powered USB port can supply 5V (beige), 12V (blue), or 24V (red). They are color-coded and connectors are keyed to distinguish between them.

I had a close look at the powered USB port at the rear of my Dell D830. It did not look like a 24V keyed connector or a 12V one. So I guess it must be the 5V type that can presumably supply up to 6 Amps per connector.

What accessories can I buy to take advantage of this powered USB port? I could not find anything in the web or in the shop. Many shops don't even know there is such "powered USB" standard!

You can add a secondary hard drive in there as well.

I am thinking of a USB hub powered by the powered USB port with high current supply. If the one on the D830 is proprietary then it is not very useful then. :-(
