    Hi..

I have a Dell D620, approx 2 years old that has been a real work horse....until recently. For some unknown reason it now does not recognise either of the two batteries I use in it. The spare one slots into the DVD bay when I need extra juice.

Now I know that batteries deteriorate around the 2 year mark but both of them on the same day doesn't seem right??? All I now get is the yellow flashing battery indicator and it only runs on mains powere.

I'm happy to buy another battery but would prefer to resolve the current problem first if at all possible - any suggestions greatly received?

    Thanks in advance...Avalon63

This thread discusses another D620 battery problem and might give some clues.

Are you running the latest BIOS?

    Hi John

I'm not too cluey around BIOS issues; had a quick look on Dell site and not too clear as to whether I'm running latest or how to check if I am and if I need to update????? However I did learn that a novice shouldn't be digging around in the BIOS without a clear idea of what you're doing!

Plus learnt that both batteries seem to be in good order through the 5 point LED testing gizmo on Dell batteries.

    Any advice would be appreciated....Thanks

What battery wear is indicated when you hold down the button on the battery (see other thread for details). However, battery condition should not be a factor in whether or not the computer recognises the battery. This suggests that it is a hardware problem.

However, just in case it is the BIOS, go to the Dell support site, feed in your service tag and download the latest BIOS. Then run the BIOS file and it will update / overwrite whatever you have. I have, somewhere, read of a BIOS update to fix battery recognition problems but I can't remember what make / model of computer.

    John
