    So, I love my Netflix and love the 'watch it now' option. My Acer did not have this problem so I am at a loss. We went to use her Dell to 'watch it now' and it said all kids of stupid crap. I spent an hour os so trying to get the service pack to load and then it said: 'amd64\update\update.exe is not a valid Win32 application'.

    So, not being afraid to ask for help, I talked to someone at Netflix and wastold there is nothing else I can use for that app...I have to talk to Microsoft sine it is their app. OK, much as I hate it I did. The guy tells me that I have to do this:

    Step 1: Uninstall Silverlight

    ========================

    1. Click Start, Run, type: "notepad C:\remove.bat" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter. Choose Yes when you are prompted.

    2. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window:

    @echo off

    rd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight" /S /Q

    del %temp% /Q /F

    Reg delete "HKCR\AgControl.AgControl" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\AgControl.AgControl.0.90" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\AppID\{83B900D2-51E8-4B67-BD75-643C8F14BBD8}" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\AppID\NPCtrl.DLL" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\CLSID\{32C73088-76AE-40F7-AC40-81F62CB2C1DA}" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\Interface\{1FB839CC-116C-4C9B-AE8E-3DBB6496E326}" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\Interface\{EE38D0F1-5AE3-408C-A6BF-8410E645F376}" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/ag-plugin" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\TypeLib\{283C8576-0726-4DBC-9609-3F855162009A}" /f

    Reg delete "HKCR\TypeLib\{283C8576-0726-4DBC-9609-3F855162009A}" /f

    Reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Silverlight" /f

    Reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{32C73088-76AE-40F7-AC40-81F62CB2C1DA}" /f

    Reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\PreApproved\{32 C73088-76AE-40F7-AC40-81F62CB2C1DA}" /f

    Reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Accepted Documents\ag" /f

    Reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OptionalCompo nents\NpCtrl" /f

    Reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@Microsoft.com/NpCtrl,version=0.90" /f

    Reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{89F4137D-6C26-4A84-BDB8-2E5A4BB71E00}" /f

    3. After you have pasted the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose Yes when you are prompted to save the file.

    4. Click Start, Run, type: "C:\remove.bat" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter to run the commands we have pasted.

    Step 2: Go to Netflix Website to check whether the Silverlight has been uninstalled.

    Step 3: Install the Silverlight from the Netflix Website.

    Would this work? Frankly I am terrified to screw up her laptop.

    I am not sure where to put this, I did put it here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=344363 but no one has said anything. I am at a loss, the Tech at Microsoft said this is a problem with the Dell Latitude D600 (I know, some will say get something newer but this is my Wife's puter and she loves it!). Can someone tell me if there is somewhere else I should put that post, or perhaps a different site that may help us out on that? I just want advice, as to whether we should do as he says or if that might be a big mistake. I just had her reformat this (I was out of town) and soon as I got back I went and made a backup CD of her Dell Stuff and drivers so we do have that, I just hate having to and she wants to be able to watch instant Netflix.

    Thanks for any help, including any other place if this is not the right place for that question!

    Have you tried uninstalling Silverlight (Microsoft's competitor to Adobe Flash-the plugin that allows YouTube movies, and those moving ads, among other things to play) via Add-Remove Programs? It should be listed there.

    Also, It's nice to see that you have a backup of your stuff, not many people do that but it's important, esp. since you may have to do the manual uninstallation steps involving the Windows Registry. (a big database of Windows Settings)

    If you try to install Silverlight after using Add-Remove Programs and it still doesn't work, I'd try the manual steps then I'd reinstall Silverlight again.

    Thanks, but that was actually an afterthought. She said it was freaky acting (phone) so I had her grab our open XP Pro and reformat (I did not know Dell...and the quirks of a used one then) and then she had to wait for me to come home (a WEEK!). Then I made the disk, so more of a hindsight. Also have it on the external HD, not going to let that happen to her again!. Either way, I did a remove that way, see, it (Silverlight, the trap I have to use) works fine on our other laptops. The Microsoft dude told me this is 'specific' to this model (Latitude D600) and wants me to do this batch reg delete and it scares the heck out of me, considering what she has gone through already with this bugger (Have to admit, it is cute!).

    So, yeah, I removed, then reinstalled. Then contacted. I just don't trust basic Tech Support, I know, I have done it :D If I do that batch, will it cause any harm? If not I think I would just say heck with it and do so. Would be nice to have it running instant play by the time she got home from work since I have a dinner biz planning meeting tonight...

    Yeah, that is why when I took a look at the list of Reg Del I got a bit...um, concerned so figured my best bet is to ask someone who actually knows (especially since craigslist is running an ad for Silverlight Dev here now, haha).
