I love the WUXGA screen in mine but i was thinking of getting a smaller system for on the road.

I saw many guys are selling 4GB (2x1) memory for D430 on eBay, but none of them could confirm that the D430 can be upgraded to 4GB. I don't know if anybody here actually tested or just speculation that it doesn't support it (the truth from Dell specs, is 2GB max)?

The D430 has the 945GMS chipset (see the Dell specs PDF file here). The 945GMS has only a single memory channel supporting a maximum 2GB RAM (see Intel data sheet).

However, I was able to run the Sony G11 with 2.5GB (512MB on board plus 2GB in the slot, but could only use 2GB. As noted above, the Dell BIOS appears to detect if there is more than 2GB on board and then refuses to boot.

Whats interesting, is that while I've had the same experience as everyone else on here with a 2GB SODIMM in the slot and the non-booting screen, I have had strange success with the D420 (which has the same config, but only 512MB onboard) and on that machine, I can insert a 2GB chip and get 2.5GB in Windows and the BIOS with the latest BIOS updates.
