From the Dell website, and on the Vostro configure page there is an option for a Dell Coolslice gizmo/gadget/accessory.

It has no real product description or picture either. A search on google turns up nothing. Heres the only mention on the site:

    Convenient Size, Operation and Weight
Expertly designed Vostro laptops offer heavyweight performance – without the weight. Thin and highly portable, the 1310 starts at just 4.45 lbs (2.02 kg)5. And the compact 13.3" display delivers vibrant widescreen images in a convenient, road-ready size.

    * Easy multimedia operation with convenient controls.
    * Simplify disc loading with convenient slot-load optical drives.
    * Improve lap comfort and deflect system heat with optional Dell CoolSliceTM venting tray.
    * Increase work time with long battery life

It's probably like a aluminum tray that goes underneath your laptop to "Improve lap comfort and deflect system heat ".

My guess is that it is a wedge or slice shape device to deflect heat and add comfort.

Any info on what material it's made out of? For $29 on Dell website it sounds like it might be a cheap plastic gimmick.

Think yourself lucky, they want £60 + VAT (about $130) for one over here!

Yea, just seems like something that allows a gap of space for airflow.
