hi all, at what point does a non working touchpad become a hardware problem? I've tried everythinf for the last few days - drivers etc. The problem with my touchpad is that i cant use it to click. it moves about the desktop without hassle. anyone suggest anything please?

That is probably a hardware problem. The touchpad should pretty much work by default, 98, ME, 2K, or XP+; you shouldn't need any drivers. I think it's abnormal that it'd suddenly stop working though... when did this start happening?

    hi,
it happened when i clicked on a link online. the pointer just faded for a few seconds then reappeared only to find i could no longer click with it.each time when i start up without mouse it moves around but highlights across the screen when i move it every time. Its at this point i re-attach the mouse which works ok. i tried using the pointer without mouse in safe mode but no go, by the way.
    thanks
