Hey guys, I apologize if there are other posts about this, but I wanted a definitive answer. As the title suggests, my Vostro's 8400m GS has been acting up causing my laptop to crash, and when I restart, the display and everything is messed up. I bought it in Jan 2008, so warranty is expired, but I was just wondering:

If I call customer service and tell them about this issue with my card, will they replace it with no charge?

The reason I ask this is because I see a lot of threads where people say they got it replaced even after the warranty expired. Thanks!

Somewhere on the Dell website (and I don't remember where it is) is a list of laptops with faulty Nvidia graphics chips. If your laptop is on that list, Dell is supposed to fix your laptop under an extended warranty program that lasts a year after your standard warranty ends.

I don't know if the Vostro 1400 qualifies, and I don't know if Dell is still even doing this anymore, but I think both should be likely, so look into it.

EDIT: Lithus beat me to it.

I have decided that I will never buy any laptop with a Nvidia graphic chip in it, either ATI or Intel for me. How about you?

That's a rash decision. All companies make mistakes. I guess you don't remember the Intel Pentium fiasco, but by your logic, you shouldn't buy anything Intel either.

Same brand as the video card in my current machine.
