    Hi there,

My d630 wont start. Whenever i push the power button, the power led lights up, hdd starts but the display stays black. And then, after few seconds i can hear the hdd turning off (it makes this funny "click") and the whole notebook powers off.

I disassembled it few times already. I kept unplugging one part after another trying to power up the notebook after ever one. Finally, with both ram modules (genuine, no upgrades) taken out it powers up, but of course won't boot...

    There are now two problems:
    1. Both ram modules worked already for some time.
    2. The notebook powers up and boots into win xp from time to time and everything seems ok, till it dies after around one hour, sometimes more. This opts against corrupted ram...

Any ideas anyone? I know this is a tough one... :)

I would try booting from another HDD first, seems likely..

The notebook doesn't even POST in most cases, so the boot process doesn't start :/
But i tried to power it up with the hdd unplugged, and this didn't change anything.

The times where you do successfully boot up, device manager detects no faulty devices?

Honestly, sending it to Dell seems like a good idea.

There is the next problem... I bought my d630 from a company, which was closing and outsourcing its IT. This means that i don't have any papers on this notebook :/. Now don't know, whether i can simply send the d630 to dell. Don't want to be accused of stealing it or something :|

Depending on the company I am sure they have records if they are at any decent size, if they stil lhave some sort of IT director or etc call him and see what they can do, usually you can transfer ownership on dells site just need the name of the person who purchased the unit

Unless it was purchased from a reseller, it might have a warranty left on it.

Assuming US, check your warranty status here:
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...my_systems_info/details?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Either way, you can change the ownership to yourself at one of the links below. This will be necessary for warranty repairs.

    US ownership transfer:

    International transfer:

Sounds like the motherboard to me. Good luck finding out the warranty info.
