    EXPANDABILITY:
    PC Card:
One Type I or Type II
Supports 34mm ExpressCard via USB interface through PCMCIA adapter
    Express Card:
One 54mm Express Card slot, supporting both 54mm and 34mm I/O

I copied this from Dell's configuration screen.... So will this machine support an express card? I can't figure it out... I own an express card,(for cellular internet access), and would like to know if it will work on this unit if I decide to buy it? Any elaboration on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Anybody? ..... I'm having a little trouble on this one, and I seem to have better luck on here than with customer support, although Dell is usually pretty good.

Yep - the slot in the D630 is a PCMCIA slot. The adapter just slides into the slot, then the express card slides into the adapter.

I linked the Novatel adapter in case you wanted to use an aircard with the D630, but there are other adapters. Verizon makes one, but people have had problems with it.

You guys miss the point. There are 2 types of express cards: 1)a USB type express card and 2) a PCI Express type express card.

I didn't invent or name the technology, I just understand it.

IF you buy or own adapter that supports one of the above, and IF you own the other type of card - front porch light come on?

Beyond that I haven't figured yet which express architecture the Dell 630 PCMCIA slot supports yet. One Dell rep couldn't tell me either. It probably does not support both! I do know you cannot plug a creative X Fi into the slot, it won't power on. Plug the X Fi into the express card slot of a Dell E4300 and the Creative card rocks.

    Point is 3 fold:
For any system hardware: Buy the right type Express card adapter for the type of express card you're trying to use and make sure its the "type" supported by your vendor's PCMCIA slot.
