I put a 2GB stick of RAM in the bottom and another under the keyboard.
    It wouldn't boot.
I put the original 512MB stick back under the keyboard and left the 2GB stick in the bottom.
It wont boot. There's no activity or sign of life.
If I have the battery connected and the power adapter attached, the battery LED blinks every 20 seconds or so.
The 5 LEDs on the battery indicate that the battery is fully charged.
If I use only the battery, the battery LED at the top right of the keyboard does not light.
If I remove the battery and use only the power adapter, the battery LED at the top right of the keyboard does not light.
I think it just blinks to indicate the battery is fully charged when it does blink.
I'm going to get some canned air and blow out the RAM connector under the keyboard.

I'm almost positive that I had the power adapter disconnected and the battery removed when I replaced the RAM.
Are the symptoms of no life indicative of having the battery connected when replacing RAM?
Wouldn't there have been a spark or a POP sound?

    Thank you for any help.

I assume "won't boot or no activity" means no lights, no fan, LCD screen is black, etc. From your description, I don't think there is anything wrong with the battery or power adapter. I would minimize conflict by taking out the battery and having only the power adapter in. I would stick with your 512MB ram (assuming it still works) to test the laptop. Make sure all connections to the motherboard are connected. This means the power button connectors too. It could be the power switch or connector.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah, I'd be pretty certain it's a dead motherboard based on everything OP has said.
