    Hi all,

I have a D630 and recently added a 2GB RAM stick to the existing 2GB already in there. Now, when I start/restart the computer, it beeps many times loudly. Do you know why this is happening and how to correct this? Does this mean there is a problem?

    Thank you.

Are you putting higher rating RAM inside it, i.e. 667/800Mhz?

Yes, I added a 2GB stick of 800mhz DDR2 6400. I'm not sure what the specs were of the original 2GB stick that I left in the other RAM slot.

Any ideas on how to stop this? Thanks.

Remove the 2 GB you added, check with CPU-Z what are the specs for the RAM that came with it and get some RAM with matching frequency as well as timings.

I agree with tijo, remove the new RAM and boot the system, may be mismatched speeds. If you do happened to confirm that the RAM you added is the same speed as the RAM that was already installed, you could remove the original RAM and insert only the new stick. If you still cannot boot with only the new stick of RAM, I would venture to say it may be defective.

Thanks everyone. They may very well be mismatched, but from my searches it seems that it won't cause any longterm harm, and the system will just default to the lower speed. Is that right?

If so I will live with the beeping.

    THanks.

Yeah, the faster will default to the lower speed, it's not harmful, but sometimes some SODIMMs just don't play well together, it's a rare and random thing though.

D630 default is 533Mhz. Putting 667 has good chance to work. Putting 800 may not be the case although theoretically it should adjust itself to lower frequency, luck dependent.
