Hi everyone. I'm having issues with my D600 that I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with.

When I start my laptop, I sometimes have to restart it anywhere from 2 to 25 times in order to get the screen to work. Once the screen displays the desktop it seems to work fine. A tech friend of mine said it may be due to a motherboard issue.

Any ideas as to what this may be and I how I can fix it?

    Thanks.

What happens on the other 23 times when the screen doesn't work? Does the laptop not power on, or is it just the screen that's not working? Do you have an external monitor with which to test this machine?

Well 25 times is not an exact number but more or less an estimation. Sometimes it works after the 3rd, 10th, 23rd attempt, sometimes I try so many times that I give up out of frustration...

But to answer your question, the laptop does power up, however I have not connected it to an external monitor to assess it completely. I will attempt this later today, however I believe that it does function as it should without displaying the information on screen.

I plugged an external monitor to the laptop to see if it would display the information when the screen of the laptop was not working.

Turns out the information from the laptop would only display on the external monitor if the laptop monitor was functioning and displayed first. If the laptop monitor did not display, it was not possible to get the external monitor to display anything either (Fn+F8).

So what does is sound like the problem is?

Have you checked the connector? Try waiting until Windows starts up before pressing Fn+F8.

I have. When the laptop monitor is working I can switch over to the external as soon as the Windows start up screen appears. When the laptop monitor is not woriking I can wait for as long as it takes for windows to boot up and then some and I won't be able to switch over.
