I just bought the wrong processor for my D600 latitude.

    Somehow i got a 760 at 533MHz 2.0Ghz when i should have got a 755 at 400 MHz.

Is there any way of using it ?
I fitted it in already and it won't boot

    thx

If the notebook only supports 400MHz FSB CPUs, then it is likely that the BIOS does not support it.

First of all, the D600 will take all 400MHz FSB Pentium M processors, Banias or Dothan; no questions asked. It is NOT supposed to work 533MHz FSB Pentium M processors. There is a possibility that 533MHz FSB units will run with a 400MHz FSB given the latest BIOS, but it is unlikely.

The latest BIOS is A16. Make sure you have it and re-install the processor. If it still does not work, you are out of luck.

thx for the replies so far.

I thought it should work - same as RAM downgrades itself too.

    So - i've got D16 bios update - i'm on A02 !!

but it won't install it says my hardware is incompatible - so i 'm struggling a bit here

It will bootup and run, but it will run at a lower clock speed than it is supposed to as you will be running it at 400mhz. So basically you need to get the right one to get any performance increase. To be honest though, the 2.0's for the D600 on eBay are SUPER expensive. You are better off investing your money in a newer laptop, as the performance increase you are getting isnt that much in the end.
