im messing around with my old d400 at the moment and i want to pinmod it for the hell of it cpu-z tells me its a

    1.4ghz pentium m banias core
    on a 479mpga
    bus speed is 100mhz
    rated fsb is 400mhz

i reckon the good old pinmod should allow me to bring the fsb upto 133fsb what you guys reckon its been so long since i done my last pinmod which was great by the way

Did it work? I am curious...just picked up a D400. Probably fast enough as is with it's 1.8 and just needing to run my car tuning program :), but I try to push all my stuff faster.

alkemyst: The OP's should have worked, you need to check if yours has a 400mhz FSB or 533mhz, the pin mod only works on 400mhz chips.

I have heard conflicting stories that the CPU is soldered on vs not.

Does your motherboard support 533MHZ FSB CPUs? Because if it does then it should work. and even if it is soldered, if you can somehow find the pins and short it out you will get the same results but be careful.

The D400's chipset is 855GM and does not support 533FSB. You can only do the 400->533 FSB pin mod with a 915 chipset and 400FSB Banias/Dothan processors.

Yes, the pinmod is only possible on the 533mhz capable Sonoma platform.

I know this is a late reply, but yes the 855 chipset only does 400mhz FSB, and on top of that the CPU on the D400 as with most ultraportables is soldered on.
