Curious, does anyone own a Vostro A860?

I don't think I've ever seen someone who's had one on these forums, and there are no reviews. I wonder why.

Probably because only last month did it become available in the US and even then, it wasn't really heavily marketed here. It's original purpose was as a unit for emerging markets.

I bought one for my sister. The hinge design is kinda cool looking. The thing is glossy as all get out, EVERYWHERE. The keyboard is very nice for such a cheap machine however. If you want I can post some pictures.

my brother purchased one here in Aus

We just upgraded the ram to 4gb (Corsair VS4GSDSKIT800D2 4GB KIT PC-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 RAM, 2x 256MBx64non-ECC, 200-pin SODIMM, Unbuffered, CL5) the 1gb provided seemed to run the system ok, bit of lag on some items (a single 1gb stick was provided by Dell which i am surprised about too not the usual 2 x 512mb sicks, so we have the ability to upgrade to 2gb easily as well if we wished to do so) the ram slots are one above another.

I would highly recommend the 4gb ram upgrade as the system now is alot quicker and more responseful in comparison to its speed before

Screen was good (anti reflective matte not this gloss crap)

keyboard had some flex when typing, then again maybe i type forcefully haha

power pack was fairly small (i have a power brick for my inspiron 9100 so any power pack looks small in comparison)

the machine looks good too, the outside lid is a gloss black and when you open it has some gloss black above the keyboard its pretty thin and relatively light weight too

overall seemed like a pretty good machine for very little $$$ especially if all you want to do is use it for internet, word, excel and other small programs like my brother does.

All up cost around $1k AUD with 3 year complete warranty and myself upgrading the ram :)

photos with my phone :) (although not the clearest but good enough)
