I was wondering what folks are doing for the Webcam and Ambient Light Sensor?

Do these things work properly after a Win7 install (without Dell Drivers) or are you guys using the Vista Drivers off Dell's site for these two things?

I ask because Dell has yet to post official Win7 drivers/apps for these two devices.

    Thanks in advance!

No one here has Windows 7 on an E4300?

I've got W7-64 running on an E6400 but I haven't had time to check on those questions. It works OK for most things.

    Hi guys

I have a Precision M4400, but I guess it uses similar components to the E4300. The webcam works without installing any extra software, although if you do install the Vista drivers, they won't do any harm.

The ambient light sensor doesn't work straight off, but does if you install the Vista drivers (Windows 7 will show it in the Sensors section of the Control Panel). However, I find mine is too sensitive and generally quite annoying, so I didn't bother reinstalling it.

    Kind regards

    Thanks for the insight.

Is there a built-in app in Win7 to use the webcam? I guess kind of like Dell's Webcam Central Software.

    Hi Matt,

There isn't any built-in app that I'm aware of. There's a very basic control panel for adjusting the brightness, contrast etc., but this is only exposed when the camera is running. To actually use the webcam, you will need third-party programs (Messenger, VLC Player etc.).

    Kind regards
