Looking at a few E6530s on the Outlet and will have to make some compromises. One unit I'm looking at is way overkill on the processor, but it's a decent price and has other things I want.

Difference in weight between the 9 cell battery and 6 cell?
Difference in battery life and loud fan use between i5 3360 and i7 3720QM when running low and medium load (probably mostly low load).

Well I am using E6530 with i5 3360M and 830 128G SSD, 8GB 1600 DDR3 ... I am impressed with it's speed. I did run some VM's. I have it on Zalman ZM3000 (which is shadow of quality of ZM-NC1000 product) and I just turned it off to check sound. It is dead silent. No pitch noises, no nothing - I'm 99,9% sure fan is off (22C ambient, Balanced mode! , and there are: Cool mode - reduced temp, Quiet - reduced fan levels, Max battery, High performance, Ultra performance(max fan levels). It is completely silent now. It does not have NVS5200, though. It sometimes turns on fan at lev.1 (as I assume) and hummms quietly. Then in completely quiet room it will be possible to hear it (of course on Balanced profile, on Quiet mode it will be silet, also Extended Battery profile loves sound). I could say that this is not 'hairblower' ;) ... I cannot guarantee it for i7 3720QM model!

You shouldn't be worried about that at all, low load there should be no noticeable difference. The quadcore should do an excellent job of keeping unused cores in low power states and/or low frequencies.

Also keep in mind processor maximum power usage can be tuned via software. This means you control how much heat the processor is allowed to dissipate under load.

So if you're not using the power, it's not either, and by extension, generating the heat? And doing the same type of low to medium load, the two processors should use the same power and generate similar heat/fan noise?

Yes, from a user perspective, given low to medium load, the two processors should use the same power and generate similar heat/fan noise.

    Great...thanks!

Thought of another question...is the fingerpring reader only good for Windows type logon, or does can it be set up for websites?
